Upstream vs. TrueProfit

TrueProfit is the highest-reviewed app in this category and a real real-time profit dashboard: COGS, shipping, transaction fees, and ad spend rolled into one P&L, with LTV tracking and marketing attribution across Meta, Google, TikTok, and Amazon. It's a gross-margin and attributed-LTV tool, not a contribution-margin one, and a 2026 migration removed the ability to see historical COGS at all.

Where TrueProfit merchants are running into trouble

Historical COGS was removed entirely in a 2026 migration

high

TrueProfit's own migration notice states merchants "can no longer set historical cost rules in COGS settings," and reports now use only "your current COGS setup." After the migration, editing a cost and clicking Save auto-recalculates and "can affect past orders," so a store's past profit history changes retroactively whenever current cost changes, rather than reflecting what costs actually were at the time of each order.

CSV import/export was removed in the same migration

medium

The same notice states TrueProfit is "removing these tools to keep the page clean and easier to use," citing low usage, and that they'd consider restoring it "if user demand is demonstrated." Merchants who relied on a CSV round trip to manage cost data in bulk lost that workflow.

Why merchants choose Upstream instead

Upstream computes an effective-dated cost history automatically: a cost change today never silently rewrites what your margin looked like last quarter, which is the exact failure TrueProfit's own migration notice describes. Upstream also splits gross-margin LTGP:CAC from a fuller contribution-margin CM3 (payment fees, shipping, and returns netted in) instead of one blended LTV number, and runs a real geo-holdout test for incremental profit, not just attributed profit.
